Castiglion Fiorentino - Frassineto

12.2
Km - Percorso in bici

From the historic district of Castiglion Fiorentino we continue the journey towards the village of Frassineto, in an easily accessible stretch of about 12 km.

Starting from Piazza Risorgimento, where the information point is located, proceed towards the hilly area of the Cozzano area on a tree-lined road surrounded by olive groves until you reach the Church of Santi Cristoforo e Giusto, dating back to 1833. Then go down to the valley again and, after crossing the main road, continue along a dirt road parallel to the Cozzano stream, which divides the territory of Castiglion Fiorentino from that of Arezzo. Continue up to Vitiano, where it is possible to admire the splendid estate named after the area. Belonging to the Sandrelli family, the “Tenuta di Vitiano” has the typical structure of a Tuscan farm: a complex of buildings make up the property, the fulcrum of which is the 18th Century villa and its garden. After a long straight white road immersed in the lively and peaceful countryside, we turn right and we reach the village that closes this stage. Here is the Villa-Fattoria di Frassineto, dating back to the 17th Century, which represents one of the first and main settlements linked to the project aiming to reclaim land from the swamp of the Valdichiana. For those who want to discover the area further, it is possible to make a detour of 2 km by taking the SP23 which connects in a straight line the Tenuta di Frassineto to the Villa di Fontarronco, a building from the early 1600s that was one of the ten Grand Ducal Farms of the Valdichiana.
